Xbox Copilot Now Live; Microsoft Introduces AI Companion

About a couple of months ago, Microsoft revealed its ‘Copilot for Gaming’ initiative to the public – an AI tool designed to assist gamers directly through the Xbox mobile app. Today, the AI companion has been rolled out for testing on iOS and Android, though currently only in select regions.

Access to this early stage requires the beta version of the Xbox mobile app, with wider availability planned for later. The beta version enables players to seek in-game assistance, inquire about their gaming activity, or request game recommendations.

“In this initial phase, testers can ask Copilot about any games, including the one they’re actively playing, or request help when they’re stuck. It can also provide insights into their Xbox activity, such as play history and achievements, or suggest what to play next.”

Microsoft explains that when Copilot is asked questions, it references both the user’s Xbox activity and public sources from Bing. The company also shares examples of potential inquiries:

Here are some examples of what you can ask:

  • Get help with a game or specific tasks within a game: Whether you’re stuck on a level or need tips to progress.
    • “Hey Copilot, remind me what materials I need to craft a sword in Minecraft?”[While playing South of Midnight] “I’m stuck on Rougarou. Can you help me beat this boss?”
    • “What’s my gamerscore and how can I improve it?”
