Updates on Arma Reforger’s PS5 Mod Support Issues

The Arma Platform recently shared an extensive update on social media, addressing concerns raised by players since mod support launched on PlayStation 5. The console version of Arma Reforger has been a significant part of the game’s success, with Steam player numbers reaching new highs after the PS5 launch and the introduction of crossplay. Mod support, a long-requested feature, became available on the Sony console yesterday, though it encountered some initial hurdles.

According to the Arma Platform’s social media post, the development team is aware of several issues affecting players and has outlined four key concerns: mod download problems, storage limitations, a storage error, and issues with game performance and crashes. Here’s a breakdown of what players can expect:

First, the team acknowledged challenges with mod downloads. These issues may stem from the high volume of simultaneous downloads or hardware limitations on consoles. SSDs on PlayStation 5, for example, may slow down mod installations. The team advises patience, as repeatedly restarting downloads or refreshing the screen can worsen the problem. It’s best to wait for the download to complete or fail before trying again.

PlayStation 5 users are currently limited to 25 GB of mod storage. While the team believes this is a reasonable limit, they will keep the community informed if there’s potential for expansion. Players are encouraged not to ask the team to increase the limit on social media, as it won’t accelerate the process.

Separately, some players have experienced a storage error, even when they haven’t reached the 25 GB limit. The team is investigating this issue and will provide a fix as soon as possible.

Lastly, the team addressed performance and crash issues. They explained that mods can place additional strain on hardware, especially since mod creators don’t have the same access to quality assurance testing as the Arma Reforger team. The developers are working closely with modders to optimize performance and improve the console experience.

Mods add a lot of value to games, but as fan-created projects, they don’t always benefit from the same level of quality assurance as the base game. Patience is key, and once these issues are resolved, the console experience for Arma Reforger should improve significantly.
