Pekoe creator Kitten Cup Studio, alongside publisher Big Blue Sky Games, unveiled a gameplay trailer for their upcoming adventure title Capy Castaway during the Women-Led Games 2025 Summer Showcase at this year’s Summer Game Fest.
The narrative centers on Capy, a young capybara torn from their family when a sudden storm floods their zoo habitat. Washed ashore in unfamiliar territory, Capy befriends Corvi, an inquisitive crow, and together they embark on a journey to reunite with their loved ones.
“The game draws inspiration from Toronto’s landscapes and the real-life escapades of Bonnie and Clyde – two capybaras that famously escaped the High Park Zoo in 2016,” shared Saffron Bolduc-Chong, Kitten Cup Studio’s CEO and creative lead, in a statement.
Highlighting local talent, the project features an original score by Toronto composer Mark Sparling, renowned for his work on the acclaimed indie title A Short Hike (2019).
“We aimed to infuse the game with local familiarity and unexpected humor. During development, we’d brainstorm ideas like, ‘What if you could wear fruit as hats?’ – leading to mechanics where players stack yuzu citrus on Capy’s head. It’s this blend of heartfelt storytelling and whimsical experimentation we hope players adore.”
Tony Roma, president of Big Blue Sky Games, remarked: “Supporting Kitten Cup’s creative vision is a privilege. Capy Castaway combines tranquil exploration, emotive storytelling, and quirky interactions in a vibrant world players will cherish exploring.”
