CD Projekt Red’s latest technical demonstration for The Witcher 4 has generated significant enthusiasm within the fan community. Studio representatives have further fueled anticipation through their recent optimistic remarks.
Marcin Momot, CDPR’s community lead, shared that the preview achieves 4K resolution at 60FPS, describing the project as “something special”. In subsequent comments, he credited the development team’s exceptional talent through wizard-themed praise.
Here’s the very first look at the tech powering The Witcher 4, developed by our team in collaboration with Epic, in buttery smooth 4K/60fps. This game is shaping up to be something special and we can’t wait to show you more when the time is right!
Echoing this sentiment, CDPR’s head of PR Fabian Mario Döhla emphasized the team’s dedication, stating the tech demo reflects “some of the industry’s top experts pouring their passion into the project.”
The studio’s transition from their proprietary REDengine to Unreal Engine 5 appears strategically sound according to lead technical animator Julian Girbig. He explained the engine’s capabilities align with their multi-project development goals, noting its immediate benefits are already apparent.
We looked at a bunch of different engines, really evaluated it, and it was a conscious decision that Unreal is the right tool for us in the future, and especially when we move to multiple different projects at the same time. And I think the demo actually shows that it was worth it, the work that we put in is paying off.
In further discussion with GamesRadar, Girbig revealed UE5’s “nanite foliage” technology and other tools have expanded his creative potential, enabling more ambitious environmental designs than previously achievable.
