Marking the game’s 10th anniversary, the developers at CD Projekt RED have unveiled plans for a final update to The Witcher 3. Slated for release later this year, this patch will introduce modding capabilities to the PS5 installment of the role-playing game.
Detailing the update in a blog post, CD Projekt RED stated: “Later this year, we will release one more patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This update will introduce cross-platform mod support across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S via mod.io. Creating, sharing, and enjoying mods will be easier and more accessible, as players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S will be able to share a modding ecosystem.”
Mod-related functionalities, including uploading and downloading, will be available at no cost on modern platforms—PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. However, the original PS4 release will not receive these features.
The studio clarified that certain PC mods might not be accessible on consoles due to platform-specific guidelines. Creation of mods will remain exclusive to PC, with consoles limited to downloading existing modifications.
The team concluded by saying, “We will share more information closer to the release of the patch, so stay tuned. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey over the last 10 years. We can’t wait to see what you’ll bring to the world of The Witcher!”
