Following Louisiana’s legal action against Roblox in late 2025 over allegations of fostering environments where minors faced exploitation, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has now initiated a comparable lawsuit. The filings accuse the platform of prioritizing financial gains over youth protection, with Paxton condemning the company for enabling “digital predators disguised as players” to target vulnerable users.
In an official statement, Paxton asserted, “Platforms such as Roblox cannot serve as hubs for child endangerment while companies prioritize revenue over accountability. Protecting minors from online predators must outweigh corporate interests, and entities failing this duty will confront rigorous legal consequences.”
Roblox has refuted these accusations, labeling them exaggerated. In a response to PC Gamer, the company emphasized its dedication to user safety while dismissing Paxton’s claims as “inaccurate and hyperbolic.” Despite this pushback, scrutiny of Roblox’s child-protection measures has intensified amid documented third-party investigations and internal struggles to combat abuse.
A 2024 Bloomberg report revealed over 13,000 instances of child exploitation on the platform in 2023, citing employees who described Roblox’s efforts as insufficient. Earlier critiques, including exposés by People Make Games, highlighted systemic flaws in content moderation and revenue-sharing practices that disadvantage creators while exposing younger users to risks.
Roblox’s subsequent safety overhauls, such as stricter age verification and enhanced moderation, faced criticism for delayed implementation. Legal actions extend beyond Texas and Louisiana, with Kentucky filing related claims and Florida launching a criminal probe into the platform’s practices.
Roblox maintains that its policies prioritize safeguarding minors, stating its safety mechanisms are “continuously evolving to address emerging threats.” However, critics argue that reactive measures may not suffice to mitigate longstanding vulnerabilities exploited by malicious actors.
