Sony Introduces PS5 Beta Support for Multi-Device DualSense Connectivity and Energy-Efficient Gaming Update

Sony’s latest beta update for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro introduces enhanced multi-device connectivity for DualSense controllers. Starting tomorrow, beta participants can toggle their controllers between up to four registered gadgets—like consoles, PCs, or phones—without repetitive pairing steps. The feature simplifies transitioning gameplay sessions across platforms using specific button combinations.

According to PlayStation’s announcement, after initial setup, players press the PS button alongside face buttons (Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square) to activate predefined device slots. Each slot triggers distinct indicator lights on the controller, signaling which gadget is active. Shuzo Kikuchi, Sony’s product management VP, highlighted the convenience: “This update lets users shift from PS5 to PC gaming, or Remote Play on mobile, without interrupting their experience.”

Slot Button Combo LED Indicators Device
1 PS + Triangle Single light PS5
2 PS + Circle Two lights PS5 Pro
3 PS + Cross Three lights Windows PC
4 PS + Square Four lights iOS device

A secondary feature, still in development, focuses on energy efficiency. A future system patch will introduce a low-power mode for compatible games, scaling back performance to cut electricity usage. This optional setting disables resource-heavy features like ray tracing and VR support, targeting eco-conscious players. While not ideal for high-fidelity experiences, it benefits lightweight titles such as 2D indies, potentially lowering energy costs and environmental impact.

Sony has yet to confirm how many games will adopt this power-saving feature or its exact implementation. Performance-focused gamers may skip the mode, but it provides flexibility for those prioritizing sustainability over ultra-smooth visuals.
