Some customers express frustration after major retailer accidentally staples receipts to new console screens during launch.

Some buyers experienced an unexpected setback while unboxing their new gaming devices. Retailers allegedly attached receipts using staples that pierced packaging and damaged screens on recently released consoles.

Nintendo’s minimalist packaging design positions the device near the box’s surface, protected only by a slim layer. While generally effective, this approach proved problematic when combined with forceful stapling practices. Multiple users shared images online showing punctured screens caused by store staples penetrating multiple layers.

“GameStop stapled the receipt for me and my friends Switch 2s to the box,” one customer wrote on social media, including photos of damaged displays. Reddit discussions revealed similar issues, with one user noting: “This happened to me and another buddy [at the same GameStop]! Think the entire pre order batch is completely fucked.”

Media outlets observed that a particular New York GameStop location appeared most affected, though corporate stapling guidelines remain unclear. The retailer acknowledged investigating the situation, stating: “We will make the customer whole if there was damage.”
