Resident Evil 9 Originally Started as a Multiplayer Open-World Game, Rumored

Resident Evil 9 was initially conceived as an open-world multiplayer project, but despite a significant overhaul in its development, the current iteration still shares some of its original concepts.

During a discussion on X, a well-known leak source provided details about the upcoming Resident Evil 9. According to the information, the game was first developed in 2017 as a multiplayer title set on a fictional island inspired by Singapore. The project aimed to be the polar opposite of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, which had underperformed commercially. However, by 2021, the game underwent a major revision following the release of Resident Evil Village. While some elements and the protagonist, Leon, remained, the overall direction shifted significantly.

Aside from Resident Evil 9, the leak also touched on other projects in the works. The remake of Resident Evil Zero has undergone changes in recent months, with its reveal reportedly nearing. Additionally, Revelations 3, which was leaked years ago, was canceled in 2022.

Currently, details about Resident Evil 9 are scarce, except for the fact that it has been in development for several years. Despite the lack of updates, it is expected to be announced in 2025 and released in 2026. With upcoming events and exhibitions, fans may soon learn more about how this new entry plans to revitalize the series, which is reportedly why its release has been delayed.
