Princess Peach’s Voice Actor Replaced After 18 Years

The debut of Super Mario Bros. Wonder in 2023 ushered in a fresh chapter for the franchise, with Kevin Afghani stepping into the role previously held by industry veteran Charles Martinet. This transition left fans speculating about further potential recasts across the series.

While Samantha Kelly initially returned to voice Princess Peach and Toad in Showtime!, recent developments confirm her departure following 18 years with Nintendo. Her social media announcement revealed she learned of the recasting decision post-launch of Mario Kart World.

Samantha Kelly: “Thank you for so many years of friendship and joy. I’m sad that it’s over, I truly would have wanted to voice Peach and Toad forever. Nintendo let me know yesterday that they decided to recast these roles. I’m grateful that I got to do these voices for so many years. Peach and Toad are such strong and beautiful characters that I pray they live forever no matter who voices them. So much love #princesspeach #toad”

Despite her extensive contributions spanning multiple games, Kelly’s exit contrasts sharply with Martinet’s ceremonious farewell. The latter received an official “Mario Ambassador” designation from Nintendo, allowing him to continue representing the character publicly.

Separately, longstanding Donkey Kong voice actor Takashi Nagasako appears to have concluded his 20-year tenure. Revised casting details are reflected in recent game credits.
