Sony’s PlayStation introduced a five-star user rating feature in 2023, and it has now expanded this system to allow detailed written critiques for purchased games via its digital storefront. Players can now share extended opinions alongside numerical scores.
As reported by Push Square, this feature was previously in beta testing but is now publicly accessible through the PlayStation Store’s web platform. Console-based submission remains unavailable, likely to avoid the cumbersome process of typing lengthy content via controller input.
To contribute a review, users must log into their accounts via the browser-based storefront. After selecting an owned title, navigate to the rating section and click ‘Continue’ to access a form (shown above) where you can craft a headline, detailed analysis (up to 4,000 characters), and mark content with spoiler warnings as needed.
This evolution mirrors Steam’s community-driven approach, potentially inviting similar challenges like coordinated negative review campaigns. Past incidents, such as the Helldivers 2 backlash, demonstrate how such systems might be exploited despite their benefits for consumer feedback.
