Chinese studio S-GAME recently organized a Beijing-based two-day showcase called S-PARTY 2025, offering attendees early access to Phantom Blade Zero. IGN India captured a 22-minute demo walkthrough, revealing hidden boss encounters, weapon unlocks, and exploration elements, which you can view below.
The action RPG has generated significant buzz as a potential genre innovator, though creators emphasize it diverges from conventional Soulslike mechanics. Earlier this summer, S-GAME’s CEO Soulframe redefined the project’s classification:
Phantom Blade Zero occupies a unique space between genres. While rooted in action RPG foundations, our vision evolved into something distinct through cultural influences rarely explored in gaming. We aimed to blend dynamic combat with interconnected environments, ultimately forging what could be termed a Wuxia-inspired experience. This approach lets players:
- Scale architecture while evading projectile barrages
- Engage in high-speed duels atop moving vehicles
- Investigate historical conspiracies shaping the game world
- Experience cinematic sequences redefining in-game storytelling
A notable departure from genre norms is Phantom Blade Zero’s three gameplay modes: the accessible Wayfarer mode, standard Gamechanger difficulty, and Hellwalker – a challenge tier reserved for New Game+ completionists.
While no launch timeframe has been confirmed, Gamescom 2024 promises fresh reveals. S-GAME will occupy a 500 m² booth (Hall 6 B-050G) with 60+ demo stations showcasing an extended build. This version reportedly features unrevealed boss fights, redesigned environments, narrative segments, and intense close-quarters combat mechanics.
Our team plans to experience this updated demo firsthand during the event, building on last year’s hands-on impressions.
