People Can Fly Terminates Project Gemini After Square Enix Deal Collapse, Downsizes Teams

Studio People Can Fly, headquartered in Poland, has halted production on two titles: Project Gemini and Project Bifrost.

In a statement posted on X, CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski explained the decision:

After careful consideration, we’ve paused development of both projects. Gemini’s suspension results from unresolved contractual terms with the publisher regarding milestone extensions, coupled with their lack of communication about continuing or ending the collaboration.

Bifrost’s termination follows financial assessments revealing insufficient resources to sustain production. These changes necessitate workforce restructuring, impacting our dedicated teams. We deeply regret these outcomes and extend gratitude to all involved for their efforts.

Project Gemini, developed under Square Enix, faced earlier setbacks including reduced scope and a 30-person staff reduction in 2024. The publisher previously collaborated with the studio on Outriders. Bifrost, initially planned as People Can Fly’s final VR project, was abandoned due to strategic reassessments of the platform’s commercial viability.

This follows last year’s cancellation of Project Dagger, an action-adventure IP with Take-Two. Despite these shifts, the studio continues development on Gears of War: E-Day for Xbox and an unannounced PlayStation-branded title.
