Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition Struggles with 4K 60fps on Switch 2

As anticipation builds for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 release this week, debates swirl around its technical potential. The hybrid console reportedly targets 120FPS gameplay in portable mode and 4K/60FPS when docked, with major titles like Star Wars Outlaws and Cyberpunk 2077 reportedly undergoing optimization for the platform.

During a discussion with Koei Tecmo regarding their launch title NOBUNAGA’S AMBITION: Awakening Complete Edition, developers revealed performance hurdles. Game director Michi Ryu explained to Wccftech:

While we initially aimed for 4K/60FPS, resource demands proved too extreme when rendering the detailed Japanese landscape. Stabilizing performance necessitated reducing targets to 1080P@30FPS. NVIDIA DLSS wasn’t implemented. We hope future projects might revisit higher visual benchmarks.

Interestingly, the PC version’s requirements suggest relatively modest demands:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10/11
  • CPU: Core i7-3770 (Win10) or i3-8350K (Win11)
  • RAM: 8GB
  • GPU: GTX 1060 (6GB) or RX 580 (8GB)
  • DX: Version 11
  • Storage: 25GB
  • Display: 1080p minimum

Despite these technical compromises, Ryu emphasized visual upgrades for Switch 2 users:

The hardware leap brings striking environmental details – realistic water, terrain, and atmospheric effects that deepen immersion. Portable play now delivers desktop-level visuals. Enhanced controls through Joy-Con 2 mouse support and USB peripherals, plus previously Asia-exclusive content, further enrich the experience.
