Nintendo has subtly updated its Nintendo Today! app, likely to stop users from capturing promotional videos and distributing them externally.
While Nintendo hasn’t officially detailed the update, Cube_play_8 shared a video showing that screen recordings of Nintendo Today! content now result in a blank screen upon playback.
Tests conducted on devices like the Google Pixel 7a, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and Poco F5 pro confirm that captured footage is rendered unviewable, similar to the results reported on Reddit.
Workarounds exist, such as filming the phone screen, but this diminishes the ability to archive promotional content effectively.
While it’s understandable that Nintendo wants to protect its content and encourage app downloads, this approach may frustrate users seeking to access promotional material elsewhere.
The app has been instrumental in promoting the upcoming Switch 2, featuring content for accessories, launch games, and GameCube titles via Nintendo Switch Online, with the device set to launch on June 5th.
