The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is rumored to match the PlayStation 4’s hardware capabilities, but advanced optimizations could elevate its performance beyond what Sony’s older console achieved.
In a recent IGN interview, CD Projekt Red’s VP of Technology, Charles Tremblay, discussed adapting Cyberpunk 2077 for the new platform. Development began in mid-2023, requiring significant engine-level adjustments due to the Switch 2’s distinct architecture. Tremblay highlighted NVIDIA DLSS as a critical tool for enhancing performance, enabling graphical fidelity that surpasses initial expectations. This scaling tech, he noted, also streamlined optimization across other platforms.
Tremblay emphasized that the Switch 2’s SSD storage and expanded RAM address limitations of older systems, such as the PS4’s mechanical drives. These upgrades not only improve base performance but also allow the Phantom Liberty expansion to be bundled seamlessly. While visuals won’t rival high-end PCs, the team prioritized stability, targeting 30 FPS with occasional 40 FPS modes as a balanced alternative to standard 60 FPS benchmarks.
Cyberpunk 2077 arrives on Nintendo’s next-gen console on June 5th, offering a tailored experience designed to leverage the hardware’s unique strengths.
