Nintendo Switch 2 Sells 1.1 Million Units in U.S. Launch Week, Sets Record

Nintendo’s next-gen console has shattered expectations, moving 3.5 million units globally within its first four days—doubling the initial sales pace of its predecessor.

Building on this momentum, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella revealed the Switch 2 claimed the U.S. hardware launch-week record with 1.1 million units sold, surpassing PlayStation 4’s prior benchmark.

Notably, 79% of early adopters purchased Mario Kart World alongside the console, either bundled with the system or acquired separately. Cyberpunk 2077 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom rounded out the top-selling titles following Nintendo’s flagship racer.

Nintendo Switch 2 set a new all-time launch week unit sales record for video game hardware in the US, with over 1.1 million units sold during the week ending June 7, 2025 (excludes sales from the My Nintendo Store). The record was previously held by PlayStation 4.

Though industry watchers anticipated strong demand, the system’s record-breaking performance surprised even optimistic forecasts. Analysts now scrutinize whether this momentum will sustain through 2025, potentially cementing additional milestones.

The console’s reception aligns with glowing reviews highlighting its advancements. Wccftech’s Chris Wray noted, “The Switch 2 represents a significant evolution, blending refined hardware with striking 4K docked visuals. Its premium build and expanded display elevate portable gaming, making it a must-have for enthusiasts.
