Reports suggest Nintendo may be the latest major company allegedly targeted by cybercriminals from the hacking collective Crimson Collective. Security analysts recently uncovered claims of compromised data tied to the gaming giant.
The group reportedly shared images of “confidential Nintendo documents” on a hidden forum, according to investigations by Hackmanac. As of October 11 (10:03 AM EDT), no official statement from Nintendo has been released to validate these assertions, leaving the claims unverified.
Though unconfirmed, Crimson Collective’s recent activity raises concerns. Just days prior, the group infiltrated tech firm Red Hat’s systems, exfiltrating over half a terabyte of proprietary code from private repositories. If the Nintendo breach is legitimate, experts speculate ransomware threats or data auctions could follow, mirroring prior tactics.
Gaming studios remain frequent targets for cyberattacks, with stolen data often including unreleased project details and staff records. Insomniac Games, known for the Spider-Man series and Wolverine, suffered a significant data breach in late 2023, resulting in extensive leaks of internal materials.
