In late 2023, Nintendo revealed plans for a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, initially scheduled for a March 2027 premiere. Earlier this year, the studio confirmed the film’s theatrical debut would occur on March 26, 2027.
However, via an official statement on Nintendo’s X account, company veteran Shigeru Miyamoto announced a revised release date. The project has been postponed by several weeks, shifting its premiere to May 7, 2027.
Miyamoto wrote: “This is Miyamoto. Due to production requirements, the global theatrical release for the live-action Legend of Zelda film will now arrive on May 7, 2027. The revised timeline allows us to refine every detail, ensuring the final product meets expectations. We appreciate your continued support.”

While the delay shifts the timeline, fans remain eager for further details. Speculation continues to swirl around casting choices, particularly for the leads. Recent reports suggest Hunter Schafer may portray Zelda, though Nintendo has yet to confirm the film’s cast. The role of Link, meanwhile, remains a topic of fervent fan debate.
