New Virtua Fighter Project Gets Fresh Training Stage Trailer

During EVO 2025, SEGA unveiled fresh footage of the highly anticipated Virtua Fighter revival, tentatively titled New Virtua Fighter Project. The teaser highlights intense training-stage combat sequences, clocking in under a minute yet showcasing fluid movement and impactful strikes that hint at the title’s potential.

The project was first revealed by SEGA in late 2024, with a formal reveal at The Game Awards confirming development by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio—the team behind the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. Early 2025 brought a “pre-development” preview via NVIDIA’s CES keynote, followed by the surprise launch of VF5 R.E.O. on Steam. Console editions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and Switch 2 are slated for release with cross-play support, offering fans a bridge until the new installment arrives.

Beyond Virtua Fighter, EVO 2025 delivered major fighting game updates. Bandai Namco announced Tekken 8‘s Season 2 DLC, introducing the fan-favorite Armor King on October 13 (Season Pass holders) and October 16 (all players). A winter update will add Miary Zo—a new fighter from Madagascar—alongside the Baobab Horizon arena.

Quarter Up’s Invincible VS confirmed Omni-Man as a playable combatant, a logical inclusion given his prominence in the franchise. The arena brawler targets a 2026 debut on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Lastly, Arc System Works opened registrations for a PlayStation 5-exclusive closed beta of MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls, running September 5-7. Participants will test six characters, online battles, spectator features, and tutorials. Sign-ups are live on PlayStation.com.
