Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has indicated that Sony is revisiting its classic game library, potentially focusing on early titles from its history.
In an interview with VGC, Yoshida disclosed that a VR revival of Jumping Flash was considered, though the project ultimately didn’t materialize.
“Some developers wanted to license Jumping Flash to develop it into a part of their new VR game,” Yoshida said, not mentioning which studio was working on the title.
Yoshida cited a successful example where Fantavision’s original team secured rights to produce a VR update, resulting in Fantavision 202X.
This approach aligns with Sony’s strategy of partnering with third-party studios to refresh legacy franchises, such as the remastered Freedom Wars and forthcoming reboots of Everybody’s Golf and Patapon.
While a Jumping Flash revival for PSVR2 appears unlikely now, such discussions highlight Sony’s ongoing efforts to leverage its historical catalog for new platforms.
