NetherRealm Studios has announced that there will be no further story updates or additional characters for Mortal Kombat 1.

In a recent announcement on X/Twitter, the studio revealed that while they have considered player requests for more content, no additional DLC characters or story chapters will be released. However, support for the game will continue through updates and balance adjustments.

The studio expressed understanding that this news may disappoint fans, stating that their team needs to focus on their next project to ensure its success.

Some fans have criticized the lack of quality-of-life improvements, online features, and content in Mortal Kombat 1, calling it an unfinished product.

It is widely speculated that NetherRealm’s next project could be the highly anticipated Injustice 3, though no official confirmation has been made yet.

Earlier this month, the Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition was released across multiple platforms, bundling the main game, expansions, characters, and additional content. Fans have noted that this release marked the end of updates for the original game.

The Definitive Edition is available for £55/$70 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a $60 price on Switch. Owners of the original game can upgrade for £50/$60.
