Nacon Is Once Again Publishing WRC Games, New WRC Series In Development

Following its previous collaboration with Codemasters and EA, the FIA World Rally Championship has reaffirmed its partnership with Nacon for the official WRC video games. This move comes after Codemasters acquired the rights in 2020, leading to EA Sports’ release of WRC 2023 on November 3, 2023. However, the partnership between EA and WRC was terminated prematurely after just one game.

Previously, Nacon had successfully published seven WRC games developed by Kylotonn, a studio they acquired in 2018. Last month, Codemasters hinted at halting further development of rally games, a decision that aligns with the recent announcement of Nacon reclaiming the WRC license.

“We are delighted to restart our partnership with WRC Promoter,” stated Alain Falc, Nacon’s CEO, in a press release. “This collaboration offers a unique opportunity to create an exceptional gaming experience that resonates with rally fans. Our past work with the championship teams and drivers has equipped us with invaluable expertise, and we are excited to push rally games further than ever before.”

The new agreement grants Nacon the rights to produce WRC games from 2027 to 2032. Nacon plans to use the next two years to develop a fresh series, aiming to deliver an immersive and authentic experience that appeals to both seasoned fans and newcomers.

“After carefully evaluating potential partners, we are pleased to collaborate with Nacon,” said Arne Dirks, WRC’s chief marketing officer. “Their vision for WRC games and their proven track record in delivering high-quality rally experiences make them an excellent choice. We are eager to innovate together and elevate WRC games into new realms of excitement.”
