Mike Pondsmith suggests that Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel will include a new city for exploration.

During the 2025 Digital Dragons conference in Poland, Mike Pondsmith, creator of the Cyberpunk universe, provided updates on the next installment of Cyberpunk 2077. He hinted that players might explore a new city beyond Night City.

Cyberpunk sequel might expand beyond Night City

Digital Dragons is a major European B2B event for the video game industry, hosted by Krakow Technology Park. This year’s event took place from May 18 to 20, 2025, at the ICE Krakow Congress Center. Among the attendees was Mike Pondsmith, creator of the Cyberpunk tabletop series, which influenced CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077.

In an interview with Michal Manka (formerly of TVGRY, now with Find Your Next Game by GameStar), Pondsmith mentioned the possibility of exploring a new city in the sequel. However, he didn’t provide further details. The interview is available on the TVGRY YouTube channel.

Rumors have suggested that the sequel might take place in Chicago, as references to the city appear in Cyberpunk 2077, including a poster stating, “Travel from Chicago to Night City in under three hours, coming in 2080.” Pondsmith even described it as “Chicago gone wrong.”

While details are scarce, the next Cyberpunk title is codenamed “Project Orion,” with no confirmed release date. Fans are already speculating about the potential setting.
