In a recent September update, Mega Crit, the team behind Slay the Spire and its sequel, revealed plans to postpone the early access launch of Slay the Spire 2 to a yet-undisclosed Thursday in March 2026, shifting from its original 2025 target.
Originally unveiled in April 2024, the sequel’s early access debut was initially slated for 2025. However, the studio explained in the announcement that after extensive internal deliberations, the timeline required adjustment. “This wasn’t an easy choice—we’re as excited as our fans to release it,” the team stated. “Our aim for late 2025 proved too ambitious. Development simply needs more runway.”
Addressing the reasons for the delay, Mega Crit clarified that no single issue caused the setback. Instead, a combination of factors—including unexpected personal challenges for team members, evolving creative ambitions, and the need for additional polish—led to the revised schedule. “We kept brainstorming enhancements, expanded character rosters, and realized the game deserved extra refinement to meet expectations,” they added.
The FAQ section dismissed speculation that the delay aimed to sidestep competition with Hollow Knight Silksong, emphasizing that the decision stemmed purely from development priorities. The studio reiterated its focus on introducing fresh mechanics, narrative elements, and ensuring a polished experience before release.
While the exact release date remains unconfirmed, the studio narrowed it to a Thursday in March 2026. Players can speculate whether it lands on the 5th, 12th, 19th, or 26th, with further details promised closer to launch.
