Gearbox Says Borderlands 4 More Evolved Than Borderlands 3

As Borderlands 4 nears its September debut, Gearbox has ramped up promotional efforts. Following this week’s pre-order announcements and technical specifications reveal, Executive Producer Chris Brock discussed the title’s development in a recent interview with Gamereactor. He emphasized that the latest entry represents a more substantial gameplay overhaul compared to previous franchise milestones.

“The seven-year gap between BL2 and BL3 demanded cautious innovation,” Brock explained. “Our focus then was preserving core identity while refining systems. Now, with BL4, we’re pushing boundaries – particularly in environmental navigation and open-world dynamics. This installment marks the franchise’s most transformative leap since its inception.”

Senior Writer Taylor Clark addressed narrative shifts, noting the game’s adjusted comedic approach: “Pandora’s anarchic vibe justified earlier titles’ irreverence. BL4’s setting under tyrannical rule necessitated tonal recalibration. While humor remains integral, it emerges organically from oppressive circumstances rather than slapstick absurdity.”

The title launches September 12 for PC and current-gen consoles, with a Switch 2 port confirmed for future release.
