Plan B: Terraform Waste Disposal Guide

Struggling with waste management in Plan B: Terraform? Here’s how to set up disposal systems, optimize recycling, and prevent backups in your cities.

Unlocking Waste Disposal

Advance through the game’s main objectives and expand your city. The Waste Disposal blueprint will appear in Assembly Plants automatically when required. No visible option? Your city likely isn’t large enough to generate waste yet.

  • Placement Rules:
    • Build Waste Disposal adjacent to active city tiles (highlighted in color).
    • Avoid abandoned/greyed tiles—click tiles to verify activity status.

Mandatory Components

  • Depot Setup: Place a Depot near Waste Disposal and configure it to match the waste type (e.g., Metal Waste). Ensure it has storage space.
  • Recycling Workflow:
    • Route waste to Recycling Centers.
    • Set the Center’s recipe to process the specific waste type (e.g., Metal Waste → Steel Bars).

Output Management

  • Metal Waste: Produces 2 Steel Bars + 1 Aluminum Bar per 3 units of waste.
  • Plastic Waste (unlocked later): Converts to Polymer Bars.
  • Organic Waste: Requires Nitrogen to create compost.

Tip: Always monitor both output streams from Recycling Centers. If either product clogs, processing halts entirely. Maintain dedicated Depots for every output type.

Troubleshooting Guide

  • Waste Disposal remains red? Export waste—full storage blocks functionality.
  • No waste generated? Expand your city until the “Waste Disposal” need appears in the city panel.
  • Recycling stalls? Check for full output Depots. Add storage for both secondary products.
  • Depot inactive? Confirm it’s configured to the correct waste type and has space.
  • Can’t build despite unlocked need? Progress further in objectives.

FAQ

How do I start recycling metal waste?

Chain these buildings: Waste Disposal → Metal Waste Depot → Recycling Center (Steel Bars recipe) → Depots for Steel and Aluminum Bars.

Why won’t Waste Disposal connect to my city?

Cities dynamically shrink and grow. Verify adjacent tiles are actively populated, not abandoned.

What’s the waste-to-resource ratio?

  • 3 Metal Waste = 2 Steel Bars + 1 Aluminum Bar
  • Plastic Waste → 1:1 Polymer Bars
  • Organic Waste + Nitrogen → Compost
