Greyroot is an enigmatic character in Hollow Knight: Silksong, linked to cryptic quests demanding exploration and persistence. Her arc begins in Shellwood, where she assigns the Rite of the Pollip mission, but evolves into darker territory as the story unfolds. This guide details her quests, Pollip Heart locations, and the secret Root Curse tied to a disturbing slug baby encounter.

Starting Greyroot’s Quest

Encounter Greyroot in her cocoon within a Shellwood hut near Bellhart’s exit. After repeated interaction, she’ll emerge and offer the “Promise Wish” dialogue option. Accepting initiates the Rite of the Pollip, requiring you to gather six hidden Pollip Hearts across Shellwood.

Pollip Heart Locations

Heart #1: Northeast of Greyroot’s hut – destroy the large purple flower atop the ledge.
Heart #2: Southeast of Shellwood – wall-jump in the Bellfort exit room to reach wall-mounted flowers.
Heart #3: Above Greyroot’s hut – drop left from the upper room to strike a flower.
Heart #4: Northeast Shellwood – ascend floating platforms over water, then wall-jump and head left.
Heart #5: In a vertical room with white bulbs – bounce upward to smash the top-left flower. Grab the falling Heart before exiting!
Heart #6: Between Shellwood and Greymoor – navigate the spiked passage to the bottom-left corner.

Return to Greyroot after collecting all hearts to complete the quest.

Rite of the Pollip Reward

Greyroot gifts Hornet the Pollip Pouch (Blue Tool). When equipped, it poisons all other tools, enabling powerful damage-over-time synergies with offensive gear.

Slug Baby & the Root Curse

Later, delivering a slug baby (found in Bilewater via Whispering Vaults) to Greyroot triggers a dire event. She binds Hornet with roots, imposing the Root Crest – a permanent deblock until cured.
