Empty Vessel Raises $11M in Series A Funding for DEFECT, Adds Single-Player Support and Console Launch to Roadmap

Empty Vessel, a studio formed by ex-id Software veterans with experience on iconic titles like *Doom*, *The Last of Us*, and *Call of Duty*, has secured **$11 million** in Series A funding for its upcoming game, DEFECT. The financing round, led by NCSOFT, 1AM Gaming, and Black Phoenix Games, aims to bolster development efforts.

According to a [press release](https://www.gamespress.com/en-US/emptyvessel-Expands-DEFECT-Game-Development-with-Series-A-Close), the funding will help grow the team and broaden DEFECT’s scope—including console releases and expanded single-player features alongside its multiplayer core. This follows NCSOFT’s earlier strategic backing, signaling strong investor confidence in the project.

“Our player-centric philosophy has struck a chord with both fans and partners,” said Emmanuel Palalic, Empty Vessel’s CEO and DEFECT’s game director. “This investment accelerates our vision to redefine FPS by enhancing solo gameplay and multi-platform accessibility.”

NCSOFT’s JJ Jin praised the studio’s approach: “Empty Vessel’s bold vision for interactive storytelling and combat impressed us immediately. We’re eager to support DEFECT’s evolution.”

Gregory Milken of 1AM Gaming added, “Empty Vessel’s innovative direction in shooter design positions DEFECT to break new ground. We’re proud to back their ambitious goals.”
