After EA discontinued its Black Panther project and shuttered the involved studio, the company clarified this decision doesn’t alter its ongoing alliance with Marvel. It reiterated plans for three upcoming Marvel titles currently in production.
Few updates had emerged about the Black Panther game since its 2023 unveiling, with cancellation news and additional staff cuts surfacing recently. In an internal memo, EA Entertainment’s Laura Miele described the move as necessary to “sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.”
Miele confirmed EA Motive’s Iron Man remains unaffected, though analysts speculated whether the cancellation—part of EA’s broader pivot from “future licensed IP”—might foreshadow early termination of its Marvel partnership. An EA representative later assured IGN the collaboration continues robustly, confirming “at least three” Marvel games still in development, including Motive Studios’ Iron Man title.
The representative emphasized: “The multi-title, long-term relationship between Marvel Games and EA… remains strong. Development of our console and PC titles, beginning with Marvel’s Iron Man, is led by Motive Studios.”
These cuts follow broader restructuring at EA, including April’s elimination of 300 roles—100 from Respawn Entertainment—and cancellation of rumored projects like a Titanfall sequel. Additional layoffs occurred after terminating its WRC licensing deal.
Separately, Skydance Games delayed Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra—a non-EA Black Panther project from Amy Hennig—to 2025.
