Death Stranding 2’s Episodic DLC May Not Receive Additional Content, as Hideo Kojima Believes Such Releases Are Outdated

Kojima Productions has ruled out releasing episodic DLC content for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, as Hideo Kojima believes such content is no longer a trend.

During the 19th episode of his KOJI10 radio show, as reported on X by NV, the legendary game designer addressed the possibility of paid DLC expansions for the sequel, stating that there are currently no plans for this type of content. However, he mentioned that plans could change in the future. For now, Kojima-san confirmed that the studio intends to support the game post-launch with bug fixes and improvements, potentially introducing features not present in the first game.

In the latest episode of the KOJI10 radio show, Hideo Kojima also revealed that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach originally included a hair system. This system allowed Sam to cut his hair and shave his beard, which would regrow over time. Players could customize Sam’s appearance by trimming the beard, dyeing the hair, and more while standing in front of a dedicated mirror. However, this feature was ultimately scrapped as Sam isn’t just a customizable, player-created character.

Kojima also discussed the original concept for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which he confirmed had changed after the COVID pandemic in 2020. Initially, he planned a 1.5 expansion of the original game, focusing on exploring other continents in a world where flight was impossible. As DLCs became less popular, this idea was abandoned, and he shifted focus to a full-fledged sequel. That project was later scrapped due to the pandemic, with only the opening sequence remaining from the original concept, which was originally intended to function as a post-credits scene for Death Stranding Director’s Cut, bridging the gap between the first and second games.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to launch on PlayStation 5 on June 26th.
