Renowned game developer Glen Schofield revealed in an interview at Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show that he continues pushing for the revival of Dead Space 4. According to Schofield, he recently approached Electronic Arts, proposing to reassemble key members of the original Visceral Games team and reuse Motive Studio’s assets from the 2023 remake to cut development costs by up to $40 million. EA reportedly declined the offer, though it remains uncertain whether this refers to a previous pitch or a new attempt in 2025.
Undeterred, Schofield—co-creator of the iconic horror series—hinted that EA’s recent $55 billion acquisition by a private consortium could renew opportunities. He stated he’s actively pursuing discussions to reignite the project, adding:
EA’s current stance is unclear. The remake didn’t generate substantial returns, so expanding the IP into films or TV shows could help. But with new leadership, there’s hope they might license or sell the franchise.
Analysts speculate EA’s post-buyout strategy involves trimming expenses, potentially offloading niche IPs to focus on flagship titles like FIFA and Battlefield. Single-player franchises such as Dead Space, Mass Effect, or Dragon Age may face discontinuation due to inconsistent sales performance.
Schofield’s persistence contrasts with his recent struggles. After The Callisto Protocol—a spiritual successor to Dead Space—underperformed commercially, he left Striking Distance Studios and faced hurdles securing funding for new ventures. Despite this, he remains committed to reviving the series that launched his career.
