Cyberpunk 2 entered pre-production phase. CD Projekt Red prioritizes Project Orion, though release is years off.

CD Projekt’s Q1 2025 financial disclosures reveal that development preparations for the next Cyberpunk 2077 installment are now underway. Notably, the studio formally referenced “Cyberpunk 2” in official communications, indicating this designation might become the sequel’s final title. The project had previously been identified internally as Orion.

The studio confirms ongoing team expansion, with 96 developers now contributing to the sequel’s development. This reflects a 14% staffing increase since earlier this year when 84 personnel were assigned to the project.

Despite these developments, CD Projekt executives caution that completion remains distant. During an investor briefing, co-CEO Michal Nowakowski noted that pre-production phases at the studio typically span 4-5 years, though he emphasized timeline variability between projects, refusing to commit to specific release windows.

The Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 has surpassed new commercial heights, moving over 10 million units since its September 2023 launch. This success follows multiple technical improvements and content updates to the base game.

CD Projekt also confirmed Cyberpunk 2077 will be available for Nintendo’s next-generation console at launch on June 5, 2025. Financial results commentary from CFO Piotr Nielubowicz can be accessed via this analysis video.
