At Gamescom 2025, PRAGMATA emerged as a standout title, sparking widespread intrigue. Francesco De Meo’s hands-on impressions highlighted its innovative mechanics:
Combat revolves around synergistic teamwork between protagonists Hugh and Dana. Dana’s hacking ability disrupts enemy defenses through grid-based puzzles—simple early on but intensifying as players unlock upgrades. Success grants brief vulnerability windows for Hugh to strike. While initially juggling hacking and combat feels challenging, mastery quickly evolves into fluid, dynamic engagements. Later stages introduce layered puzzle interfaces for applying strategic debuffs, elevating both complexity and satisfaction.
Having experienced the demo, I share the enthusiasm for its 2026 launch. Speculation linking PRAGMATA to Mega Man lore, however, has been explicitly addressed by CAPCOM producer Naoto Oyama in a VideoGamesChronicle interview:
This project is entirely original, separate from the Mega Man universe. My involvement with the Battle Network Legacy Collection made me appreciate fans’ curiosity, but PRAGMATA stands as its own vision. It’s heartening to see such crossover excitement from Mega Man enthusiasts.
While the Mega Man theory captivated some, PRAGMATA’s distinct identity shines through. After multiple postponements (from its initial 2022 target), the action-adventure title now aims for a 2026 debut on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, promising a fresh sci-fi narrative and inventive combat systems.
