Build A Rocket Boy CEO Attributes MindsEye and Studio Struggles to Internal, External Sabotage

Build a Rocket Boy’s chief executive Leslie Benzies has reportedly broken silence to discuss MindsEye’s troubled launch, attributing the project’s setbacks to alleged interference from both organizational insiders and external parties.

Per IGN’s coverage, the former Grand Theft Auto producer conducted a brief virtual meeting with employees on July 2. During the address, the studio head expressed confidence in the company’s ability to recover and overhaul MindsEye, while claiming malicious actors had undermined development efforts. This follows earlier remarks from Build a Rocket Boy’s co-CEO Mark Gerhard, who previously hinted at coordinated attacks against the studio.

Despite proposed revival plans for the game, Build a Rocket Boy faces mounting challenges. Approximately 300 staff members across multiple offices, including personnel from acquired subsidiary PlayFusion, received risk notification emails this week. These developments indicate deeper organizational turmoil than initial reports of restructuring suggested.

MindsEye’s turbulent release trajectory appears increasingly problematic. Early warning signs emerged when two senior executives departed shortly before launch. With persistent technical deficiencies growing scrutiny, rebuilding both the title and team morale presents significant obstacles—particularly amid impending workforce reductions. Whether the studio’s recovery strategy proves feasible remains uncertain given current pressures.
