Bloodlines 2 Playtime Up to 40 Hours, Devs Reveal; Fabien Playable Since Two Years Ago

In a recent discussion with the Vampire: The Masquerade—Bloodlines 2 team at Gamescom 2025, insights into the game’s scope emerged. Design Director Jey Hicks shared approximate playtime estimates, noting variability based on playstyle:

Jey Hicks: We’re refining play duration as new content is integrated. Current projections suggest rushed playthroughs skipping extras might take 20-25 hours, while thorough exploration could span roughly 40 hours.

The interview also uncovered that Fabien, the Malkavian companion intertwined with protagonist Phyre, was a late addition. Hicks and Narrative Director Ian Thomas emphasized how this choice elevated the narrative.

Ian Thomas: A pivotal shift occurred late in development. We aimed to incorporate the Malkavian clan and expand the story. Merging Fabien with Phyre’s psyche created compelling contrasts—Phyre’s detachment from humanity versus Fabien’s fascination with mortal life. Strong vocal performances solidified this dynamic. Paradox supported the delay to refine this partnership, which proved vital.

Jey Hicks: Postponing release to refine Fabien was crucial. We wanted players to connect meaningfully with both characters, avoiding him feeling like a disposable narrative device.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 arrives October 21 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Explore my latest hands-on impressions via the link below.
