While many developers dabble in horror titles, Bloober Team stands apart by focusing exclusively on the genre. Despite past challenges, the studio has gained momentum with acclaimed projects like the Silent Hill 2 Remake and its upcoming release, Cronos: The New Dawn, slated for Nintendo Switch 2 alongside other platforms.
In a discussion with The Game Business, CEO Piotr Babieno emphasized the strategic decision to bring Cronos to Nintendo’s next-gen console. Beyond broadening accessibility, Babieno—a lifelong Nintendo enthusiast—hopes to reignite the platform’s legacy of hosting darker, mature experiences.
“This is about fulfilling a personal vision,” he shared. “Nintendo shaped my childhood. Classics like Eternal Darkness and earlier Resident Evil titles on GameCube showed the console’s capacity for horror. We aim to spark a new era where Nintendo becomes a hub for these narratives again.”
“We’re not ready to reveal specifics yet, but fans should keep an eye on our work,” Babieno teased, hinting at future collaborations.
Though titles like Alien: Isolation prove horror can thrive on Switch, the genre remains underrepresented. Notably, Nintendo’s eShop lacks a dedicated horror category, making such games harder to discover.
Babieno’s ambitions extend beyond software. He cites Nintendo’s corporate philosophy as inspiration for maintaining Bloober Team’s cohesion during industry turmoil. “We’ve avoided layoffs despite recent challenges,” he noted. “Preserving our team’s expertise aligns with Nintendo’s approach—stability fuels creativity.”
“Growth isn’t measured by market dominance,” he concluded. “Our mission is to perfect the craft of horror storytelling.”
