Bithell Games, known for creating celebrated indie titles such as Thomas Was Alone and John Wick Hex, has reduced its core workforce following the June 2025 release of Tron Catalyst. The studio, which also developed Tron Identity, confirmed extensive staff reductions impacting most full-time employees.
Mike Bithell, the company’s founder, shared details of the restructuring via a post on BlueSky, attributing the decision to financial hurdles. He explained that efforts to secure funding for an ambitious new initiative fell through, stating, “Despite advance planning, we faced the same market realities affecting many studios in 2024–2025. We prioritized transparency with our team, offering support through negotiated exit terms.”
The studio’s website lists Amberspire as an ongoing project, and Bithell emphasized that current game maintenance and updates will proceed unaffected. Notably, the workforce reduction occurred eight weeks after Tron Catalyst debuted across PC, consoles, and Nintendo Switch.
Tron: Catalyst launched globally on June 17, 2025, with platform support spanning current-generation Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo hardware. The layoffs represent the latest in a series of industry workforce adjustments amid shifting investment priorities.
