The chaotic Soviet-themed FPS Atomic Heart, released in 2023, has attracted over 10 million players in under two years. Its unexpected popularity on Xbox Game Pass reportedly inspired developer Mundfish to establish a dedicated publishing division.
The studio has established Mundfish Powerhouse, described as a “strategic creative collaborator” rather than a traditional publisher. This new entity plans to prioritize “high-impact titles that redefine industry expectations,” though specific projects remain undisclosed.
Company founder Robert Bagratuni explained the rationale behind this expansion:
“For quite some time, studios and investors have been approaching us seeking support,
We’ve decided to make this direction official. Powerhouse will only partner with projects where we see great potential to make noise. Not just a handful of indie hits, but big and bold games that can set a new standard for quality and creative risk.”
Discussing Atomic Heart’s trajectory, the studio head reflected on its development journey:
“What started as a dream has become a reality beyond anything we imagined. Thanks to our team’s relentless dedication, bold vision, and unwavering focus on quality, we’ve achieved something truly special. We’re incredibly grateful to our players for their passion and support – it’s their enthusiasm that brought Atomic Heart to life,”
Though the title was eventually removed from Xbox Game Pass after about 18 months, discounted pricing now makes it accessible to new audiences. Despite mixed reactions to its pacing and design choices, the game remains noteworthy for its distinctive retro-futuristic aesthetic.
