Latest Update (June 8)
Xbox Games Showcase 2025 premiered fresh gameplay footage from Gears of War: Reloaded.
Initial Announcement (May 5)
Enthusiasts of the legendary third-person shooter franchise set in a futuristic world – along with newcomers unfamiliar with Marcus Fenix’s inaugural adventure – will soon confront the Locust Horde through a rebuilt experience. The corporation behind Xbox confirmed a modernized rendition of the series’ debut title, titled Gears of War: Reloaded.
Launching August 26 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms via Steam and Microsoft Store, the updated edition carries a $39.99 price tag. PC Game Pass subscribers gain immediate access at release.
As an acknowledgment of franchise loyalty, owners of the 2016 Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will receive this revitalized version at no cost. Digital purchasers who acquired the title before May 5 will obtain redemption codes prior to launch.
This refresh coincides with preparations for the series’ twentieth anniversary, aiming to introduce the iconic shooter to broader audiences across multiple platforms.
As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever.
This remaster marks the series’ PlayStation debut, previously exclusive to Xbox and PC ecosystems. The upgraded package surpasses the 2016 Ultimate Edition with numerous enhancements, including:
- 4K resolution compatibility
- 120FPS multiplayer and 60FPS campaign performance
- HDR and VRR implementation
- Advanced anti-aliasing systems
- Seamless campaign transitions without loading screens
Cooperative gameplay options include two-player local or online campaign modes, while competitive multiplayer supports eight participants. Cross-platform functionality enables unified progression and matchmaking across all systems.
Owners will automatically receive all legacy bonus content originally created for the 2006 release, including additional campaign segments, multiplayer maps, and progression-based customization items.
