One of the best survival games on Steam has near-perfect ratings, and developers are now addressing one of Valheim’s last weaknesses.

The team behind the critically acclaimed survival game Valheim from Iron Gate has revealed new details about the game’s upcoming features. While the Deep North biome is still in development, a smaller update focusing on enhancing the combat system is set to arrive first.

Deep North was originally planned as the final biome under the Early Access roadmap. Although progress is steady, Iron Gate is keeping most details under wraps to surprise players upon its release. Unlike the Ashlands update, which was extensively previewed in advance, Deep North will be unveiled closer to launch.

However, a brief teaser has been released, introducing a new adversary. This creature is described as aggressive and furry, often carrying lanterns to navigate the icy regions of the Deep North.

Combat System Update Precedes Deep North Launch

Before exploring the frozen lands of Deep North, Valheim will undergo an update aimed at improving its combat mechanics. The developers have identified the current combat system as a significant area for enhancement and plan to address its shortcomings before the final biome’s release.

Key improvements include refining combat on slopes and uneven terrain to make encounters feel more seamless. The update will also introduce at least one new armor set.

No exact release date for the Deep North update has been announced, though the combat-focused patch will come first.

Valheim, a Viking-inspired survival game, continues to thrive in Early Access for over four years. The game boasts a 94% positive rating on Steam and a peak of 25,000 daily players, reflecting its strong reception.

Players take on the role of fallen warriors in the tenth world of Yggdrasil, where they must gather resources, craft tools, build settlements, and defeat mythical creatures in a procedurally generated environment.
