Last evening, the team developing the Skywind total conversion mod unveiled a fresh 20-minute gameplay demo centered around the mission to save Joncis Dalomax. This marks a significant milestone, as fans haven’t seen a new gameplay demo from the team in two years, though a progress video was shared last year.
For this demo, the focus was primarily on reimagining the original Morrowind quest within Skywind. The developers also provided an updated status report on the mod’s development:
- 2D Art: All core game art is finalized. Currently, the team is working on additional decorative art and enhancements.
- Writing: Core game writing is complete. Now, the team is refining flavor texts and adding extras.
- Coding: Spellcrafting and UI systems are nearing completion. Character creation UI is also close to being finalized.
- 3D Art: Most essential creatures have been modeled. The team is working on or finalizing the last three tilesets.
- Animation: Good progress has been made on creature animations.
- Asset Implementation: Moving forward as 3D tasks are completed.
- Interior Level Design: 60% complete and ready for review.
- Exterior Level Design: Only Red Mountain, Ashlands, and Zafirbel Bay remain in development.
- Navmesh: Steady progress is being made.
- Visual Effects: Weather effects are taking shape, and spell VFX are 75% complete.
- Sound Effects: Armor foley sounds are finished. World ambience and creature sounds are in progress.
- Quality Assurance: Ongoing steady progress.
- Quest Implementation: Progressing steadily.
- Voice Acting: The team is seeking final voice actors, including roles for Dagoth Ur, Vivec, and Yagrum.
- VA Mastering: Most productive year to date; focusing on documentation and workflow improvements.
- Filecutting (voice review and tagging): Steady progress is being made.
- Music: Applications will reopen soon, with a call for composers specializing in combat music.
The Skywind team continues to seek additional volunteers to assist in areas such as 3D clothing modeling, voice mixing, and 3D asset implementation using the Creation Kit. Other opportunities, like filecutting, navmeshing, and translation, are available without prior experience.
While Skywind doesn’t have a set release date, it’s clear it will take some time before it’s ready. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Skyblivion, which is still scheduled for release in 2025.
