Hideo Kojima, a legendary video game producer, has revealed that his upcoming collaboration with Sony, an action espionage game titled Physint, is expected to take another five to six years to complete. This announcement comes as Kojima prepares for the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on June 26. Additionally, he is working on a mysterious project called OD, alongside Jordan Peele, known for directing films like Get Out and Us.
Hideo Kojima’s update on Physint
Physint was first unveiled during a PlayStation State of Play event in January 2024. The announcement did not include any gameplay or teaser footage; instead, Kojima stood beside Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony’s Studio Business Group, to discuss the game’s expectations. The game’s name, Physint, was only shown on a sign outside the studio. In a video discussing the project, Kojima stated: “Within two years, I will mark the 40th anniversary of my career in game production. I believe this title will culminate my work.” He also mentioned, “With this title, we aim to bridge the gap between film and video games.” The name Physint appeared under a Columbia Pictures sign, suggesting a strong link to cinema.
During an interview with Le Film Francais, Kojima shared his plans for a film adaptation of Death Stranding and his desire to create his own film in the future. However, he emphasized that these projects will have to wait until after Death Stranding 2 and Physint, stating, “They will take me another five or six years.” This timeline is not unusual for large-scale game development, but it does reduce the likelihood of learning more about Physint in the near future.
Interestingly, Kojima did not discuss OD in this interview. Although a teaser for this game has been released, much remains unknown about it. Production on OD could span the next five to six years, though this is unclear. Kojima seems adept at managing multiple projects, so it’s possible he could work on a film and OD simultaneously if needed.
