Sony discontinues PlayStation Stars ahead of future developments.

Sony has decided to discontinue its PlayStation Stars loyalty program in its current form after three years of operation. The program, which launched in July 2022, allowed players to earn points redeemable for PSN funds and other items. While it was available in the UK later that year, Sony has now ended support for the program as part of an evaluation of player preferences.

Starting today, new members will not be accepted into PlayStation Stars, and current members who cancel will lose their points and cannot rejoin this version of the program. The program will continue for existing members until July 23, 2025, at 3:59 PM UK time. After this date, no new campaigns will be available, but the program will fully end on November 2, 2026. Digital Collectibles will remain accessible following these changes.

Sony mentioned that through this program, they gained insights into what activities resonate most with players. As a result, they will now focus on refining their loyalty efforts and exploring ways to build on what they’ve learned. It’s unclear how the program will evolve, but it seems PlayStation Stars may return in a different form in the future.

At its launch, Sony clarified that the Digital Collectibles in PlayStation Stars were not NFTs, could not be traded, and did not use blockchain technology. The program’s future remains uncertain, but Sony has not ruled out reintroducing it in some capacity.
