Pokemon Legends Z-A: An Abra Playmate Walkthrough (Side Quest)

In Pokémon Legends Z-A, trainers can engage in a relaxing optional mission called the Abra Companion quest. This activity focuses on trading rather than combat interactions. Start by visiting Academie Étoile within Rouge City’s district. Look for an NPC named Bond positioned beside floral arrangements near the academy’s left entrance. Upon conversing, he’ll express interest in acquiring an Abra for recreational purposes and propose exchanging his Riolu.

If the exchange option isn’t available, ensure you’ve completed Primary Story Objective 10 first. Progressing through this narrative requirement unlocks the trading opportunity.

Abra Companion Quest Walkthrough

You’ll need to locate an Abra and exchange it with Bond. Existing captures or fresh encounters both qualify—no restrictions on level or gender apply. Below are optimal hunting locations:

  • Primary Hunting Grounds (Zone 1): Navigate eastward to find rooftops. From the northeastern courtyard, utilize a Rock Smash-capable Pokémon to clear obstructing stones. Ascend the revealed ladder and move southeast to discover roaming Abra.
  • Secondary Area (Zone 5): Approach via central plaza’s upper-left sector. Remove purple sludge barriers using Water-type techniques, traverse waterways, then climb ladders to reach roof-level Abra spawns.

Capture Strategies

Abra instantly warps away when detecting trainers. Use stealth approaches and initiate combat swiftly—speed-oriented Pokémon like Jolteon work effectively. Long-distance Poké Ball throws prove ineffective due to instant teleportation. Multiple spawn points exist across elevated structures for repeated attempts.

Finalizing the Exchange

Return to Academie Étoile after securing Abra. Bond will trade his companion Riolu (nicknamed Rioluie) upon receiving your Pokémon. This concludes the quest as your traded Abra begins playing with its new partner.

Mission Rewards

Successful completion grants:

  • Riolu (renamed Rioluie)
  • 300 Pokécurrency
  • 5 Minor EXP Boosters

Notably, Riolu possesses evolution potential into powerful Fighting/Steel-type Lucario.
