Essential steps to acquire both the Key and Rune:
- Key requirement: Visit 50 unique Treaters’ doors during the Trick or Treat activities
- Rune acquisition: Progress through 50 doors in the event’s challenge mode
Participating in the latest Trick or Treat mode within Doors lets players earn event-exclusive rewards. Below you’ll find strategies to improve your survival odds while completing these objectives.
Rune Acquisition Strategy
To obtain the Rune, players must interact with 50 separate Treaters’ doors across two distinct game environments: The Great Outdoors and The Hotel. Each session begins in the outdoor zone featuring numerous houses to approach.

Approaching doors typically triggers spectral visitors offering candy items. Some encounters may surprise players with brief jump scares causing damage. Accumulating 50 interactions unlocks the Rune reward.
Consuming collected sweets provides Candy Corn currency for cosmetic unlocks while triggering randomized buffs/debuffs impacting gameplay. Effects remain hidden until first consumption but become identifiable afterward.
Candy Effect Overview
Confectionery effects reset with each session. Mystery candies display “???” until tasted, after which their properties become visible. Exercise caution with unfamiliar treats during critical moments.

Key Acquisition Tactics
Reaching door 50 requires careful navigation through procedurally generated challenges. Consider these survival strategies:
- Experiment with treats early in runs to identify beneficial effects
- Avoid untested candies in later stages to prevent unexpected entity spawns
- Scavenge for useful equipment like Flares, Vitamins, and Crucifixes
- Use Keys to access Mausoleums containing Candy Bags
Different hazards appear depending on your current location:
| Entity | Tips |
|---|---|
| Sally (Hotel) |
You’ll know she’s coming if you hear laughing. Be ready to give her an item to distract her and buy enough time so you can run away. |
| Eyes (Greenhouse and Hotel) |
Don’t look at them and sneak past. |
| The Rush (Greenhouse and Hotel) |
If the lights start to flicker and you hear growling, run and hide in a closet. |
| The Snare (Great Outdoor and Greenhouse) |
Traps on the ground, will deal a quite a bit of damage if you step on them, as well as briefly stun you. |
| The Mandrake (Great Outdoors) |
Flies at you screaming, will kill you if you don’t put it back where it came from. |
| The Groundskeeper (Great Outdoors) |
He’ll mostly leave you alone, as long as you don’t step on the grass |
