Following CAPCOM’s reveal that Resident Evil Requiem would launch on Nintendo Switch 2, skepticism arose among fans regarding performance on the less powerful hardware. However, leaked off-screen clips from Tokyo Game Show 2025 demonstrated surprisingly smooth gameplay on the console.
In a Famitsu interview at the event, CAPCOM Director Koshi Nakanishi confessed initial surprise at the Switch 2 version’s fluid performance. He attributed this achievement to the adaptability of the RE Engine:
From the start, the game was designed with scalability in mind. We tailored settings to accommodate diverse hardware specs, ensuring seamless optimization for platforms like Switch 2. Rather than downgrading high-end builds, we preemptively factored in varying performance targets. The engine team’s efforts truly shone here—seeing it run this well was a shock, even to us.
Notably, Producer Masato Kumazawa mentioned TGS 2025 demo stations offered Switch 2 units and gaming laptops for side-by-side comparison. Assuming the console version runs efficiently, expectations for PC performance remain high, though official system requirements are still pending.
Confirmed features for PC include NVIDIA DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation and path tracing. While unconfirmed, support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution and Intel XeSS upscaling technologies is anticipated given past CAPCOM titles.
