Yooka-Replaylee Only Runs at 30FPS on Nintendo Switch 2

British studio Playtonic Games has unveiled initial gameplay footage for Yooka-Replaylee, a refreshed edition of their 2017 platformer Yooka-Laylee, alongside confirming technical details for the Nintendo Switch 2 release.

A gameplay preview released via social media confirms the Switch 2 iteration will run at 30fps in all modes. Developers cited prioritization of visual quality and performance optimization as key factors, with possible frame rate improvements under consideration post-launch.

After extensive testing, we’ve settled on 30fps across all Switch 2 modes to ensure stability and visual polish. Limited hardware familiarity has delayed optional performance enhancements, though we’re exploring post-launch implementation. Demo availability will also follow the October release due to current constraints.

This remaster introduces extensive revisions to the original title (reviewed here), including:

  • Redesigned narrative delivery using storybook-inspired cutscenes and new transitional sequences
  • Reworked level layouts featuring additional zones, revamped puzzles, and overhauled objectives
  • Reconfigured collectible placement with twice as many Pagies to uncover
  • Enhanced traversal mechanics, including refined camera controls and an expanded moveset
  • Secret retro-inspired mini-games hidden throughout the game world
  • Introduction of Q.U.I.D.S., a novel in-game currency system
  • In-game journal system tracking exploration progress and hidden items
  • Customizable gameplay modifiers through new “Tonic” items

Yooka-Replaylee arrives October 9 for $29.99 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
