One More Level Announces Valor Mortis Playtest Next Month

Developer One More Level, known for the high-octane Ghostrunner franchise, is shifting gears from cybernetic neon vistas to a dark-fantasy reimagining of 19th-century Europe with their new project, Valor Mortis.

Debuted at Gamescom 2025, the title is billed as a “first-person Souls-inspired action RPG” blending brutal combat and environmental storytelling. Aspiring testers can apply for an exclusive preview via Steam or Discord ahead of its October 6–13 trial period.

The experimental build includes the opening story arc, initial boss encounter, and early access to character customization systems. While eventual console releases are planned, this early access phase remains PC-exclusive.

During hands-on previews, Wccftech’s Francesco De Meo praised Valor Mortis as a “standout revelation” in the crowded Soulslike space, highlighting its “visceral rhythm-based duels” and “labyrinthine environments dripping with Gothic grandeur.”

Early impressions suggest the studio has successfully translated their signature fluid movement into weightier, methodical combat while maintaining environmental verticality. The pre-release demo reportedly showcases intricate weapon synergies and branching progression paths that adapt to playstyles.
