MindsEye Disastrous Launch Could Sink IO Interactive’s Publishing Push

The turbulent release of MindsEye could have broader implications beyond Build a Rocket Boy’s prospects, according to recent remarks from Io Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak.

In an interview with IGN, Abrak addressed the partnership with Build a Rocket Boy, noting IOI’s initial admiration for the studio’s creative vision and immersive setting. However, the publisher expressed disappointment with MindsEye’s reception, calling it a significant setback for their third-party publishing initiative. Following the game’s struggles, IO Interactive plans to prioritize self-publishing moving forward, including its anticipated 007 First Light project, while potentially halting external studio collaborations.

MindsEye ranks among this year’s most criticized titles, criticized for its technical shortcomings and sparse content. Early post-launch updates have slowed dramatically, compounded by staff reductions at Build a Rocket Boy. A planned Hitman crossover event has also been postponed indefinitely, casting doubt on its eventual release amid IOI’s shifting priorities.

MindsEye is currently accessible on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
